FN Firearms

FN most popularly recognized the world over is the abbreviation for Fabrique Nationale precisely means Fabrique Nationale de Herstal which is the Belgian Firearms manufacturing company, the official name of the company is FN Herstal. The products manufactured by the company are widely known as the FN Firearms. The FN was originated in the city of Herstal near Liege. The National Factory of Weapons of War which in French is The Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre is said to have established during 1889 for manufacturing 150,000 Mauser rifles against the order procured from the Belgian Government. The company was well recognized as the firearms manufacturers though until early middle of the 20th century it was the renowned manufacturer of motor vehicles in Belgium where cars were produced in Herstal, however the production of motor cycles continued till 1965.

There are series of credentials in the basket of the world renowned FN Firearms that include:

Model 1910 the Semi automatic pistols in 7.65 x 17mm [.32ACP] serial number 19074 were used for the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Australia to trigger off the World War I.

Model 1949 mainly referred as the FN-49, FN49 or FN AL is the semi automatic rifle designed by Dieudonne Saive and manufactured by the Fabrique Nationale. These sub machine guns were used by the military forces of the various countries like: Argentina, Belgium, The Belgian Congo, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Indonesia, Luxembourg and Venezuela.

The FNH USA which is the subsidiary of the Belgian Company Fabrique Nationale de Herstal markets the FN Special Police Rifle [FN SPR] which is the bolt action sniper rifle. These rifles were manufactured in the US Repeating Arms Company – the former division of Winchester which is now owned by the FN – according to the FN specifications using Winchester model 70 actions. These rifles have been adopted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation also since 2004 till the present times.
